CRESCENT Topical Workshop
Cascading Hazards Workshop
March 7, 2025, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm, Hatfield Marine Science Center, Newport, OR
Workshop Goals
Cascading Hazards: Understanding Ground Failure in Cascadia
Shallow subsurface properties in the Pacific Northwest not only influence the characteristics of ground shaking from large earthquakes, but also control coseismic cascading hazards, e.g., landslides, liquefaction, lateral spreading and ground failure. Quantifying these subsurface properties is critical owing to the extensive alluvial deposits, unstable mountainous terrain, and significant precipitation in the region.
This interdisciplinary workshop will bring together researchers and practitioners concerned with shallow seismic hazards and landslides, liquefaction and ground failure impacts in Cascadia. This workshop will inform the efforts of related CRESCENT Working Groups to deliver societally relevant products.
Attendance
Participation in this topical workshop is by invitation. If you are interested in the Ground Failure Special Interest Group, please sign up for the listserv or contact us at cascadiaquakes@uoregon.edu.
