Virtual Session Goals

C3S Transient Detection Exercise Informational Session
Do we all see the same slow slip events? We are asking the community to find out. The exercise evaluates methods for detecting slow slip events (SSEs) along the Cascadia Subduction Zone using daily Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) time series. Everyone applies their own method to one common dataset, and then we compare the results.
The dataset compiles daily solutions from three major time series providers (UNR, SOPAC, and PANGA) for stations in Cascadia from 2010 through 2025. Because everyone works from the same data, differences in the results reflect the methods rather than the input.
The initial assessment period lasts six months, with results due by May 15, 2027. The exercise code and submission of results will remain open to the community after that date. Register below to join an informational session over Zoom on November 5th, 2026, at 11AM (PST).

Virtual Session Agenda

Thursday, November 5, 11 am – Noon PST, on Zoom
The C3S working group is organizing a community exercise to evaluate and compare approaches for detecting slow slip events along the Cascadia Subduction Zone from continuous GNSS observations. All participants work with a common 2010–2025 dataset and submit candidate events in a standardized format, providing a basis for comparing different detection approaches.
The exercise is intended to encourage collaboration, reproducibility, and the development of new approaches, with code and results remaining available for ongoing community use. Exercise documentation and submission links are provided below.
