Great ShakeOut – Public Outreach Event
The Great Oregon ShakeOut
October 15, 2026

About

On October 15, 2026, the University of Oregon joins millions of others across the world to participate in ShakeOut, an annual earthquake awareness drill. Participants practice how to protect themselves during an earthquake – the researched three steps of “Drop, Cover, and Hold On” should be performed as soon as shaking is felt or you receive an earthquake early warning alert.
A cross-collaborative team consisting of University of Oregon’s Safety and Risk Services (UOSRS), CRESCENT, the Oregon Hazards Lab, the Museum of Natural and Cultural History, and the Oregon Partnership for Disaster Resilience have partnered to bring resources and learning opportunities to students, faculty, staff, and community.

Resources

The Great Oregon ShakeOut is an important reminder of the high earthquake risk in the Pacific Northwest. Individuals and communities can take stock, train, and build resilience. Taking steps to get prepared will ensure that you get warnings when a disaster occurs, stay safe while it unfolds, and have access to necessities and communication with loved ones after it ends. Check out these resources to learn more about earthquake preparedness tips.
